Who We Are

The Suffolk County Police Department is one of the largest PD's in the country.  With 2,500 Sworn Officers and 500 Civillians members,  Suffolk is one of the safest area's in the world.  How ever there are a few bad area's of which have their own Police Forces (Amityville, Riverhead).  Other than that there is almost nothing!  For doing this they are paid an extremly high salary of about $97,000.

The starting salary is $57,811 and after 5 years is $97,958.  This does NOT include overnight and holiday pay.  Some of the benefits include medical, optical and dental insurance for you and your family.  You also get 13 sick leave days first year of service, increasing to 26 days after the first 3 years of service.  You also receive non-contributory pension plan. Members are eligible for retirement after 20 years of service at 50% of 3 year final average salary. Vested retirement plan after 5 years.  During your time you can be promoted to Sergeant, Lieutenant or Caption, all of which increase your salary.

Crime
In the NYPD Area there is atleast 1 homicide every day (coming from a high of 15 a day in 1990),  in Suffolk there is 1 homicide once every 13 days.  There about about 3,360 burgularies a year in SUffolk compared to about 17,000 a year.
